well i cant quite explain this feeling.... having just watched the last episode ever of Queer as Folk (QAF) i find myself bawling my eyes out. My heart hurts, my soul is thinking and my mind is racing. I dont even know if i have the words to write, this feeling that encompases me. QAF has been around for 5 years, ive watched it from the begining. Im not sad its gone, but im left hollow by the truths that it has ecoed. "as our disco diva, gloria gaynor, will always continue to sing.. we will survive..."

a few simple words, with such resounding truth in them it hurts. Its true, each day we wake to another battle, whether it be against disciminatatory people, remarks, anti-anything bias, religious zelots that preach tollerance, acceptance and understanding, yet dont practice it, or whether it be against something such as terrorism.. we will surivive. QAF for being a show predominanetly about gay male relationships has a lot more to offer than what meets the eye. It offers and an ulterior view of life, one in which has never been portrayed to such a wide audience before. Being banned in some countries, being restricted to non-commercial channels in australia due to its content when shows that depict lesbianism are shown on mainstream tv because they "appeal" to the white male straight audience... being real. Showing it all, having the guts to say this is how it is and stand up for people who have never had such a public voice. For allowing those who are discovering themselves to connect. To break into their isolation and let them know that they are not alone. Gay, Lesbian, bi, straight, whatever. QAF was about crossing boundaries, breaking down divisions which separate people from each other. About standing up for what you believe in, and never letting anyone tell you, you are wrong for being yourself..

To this show i owe a lot. It taught me to follow my heart, it taught me that regardless of what others may think or anything that might try and stand in our way.... we are, and should be what we are... proud.... and it went out, just as it began... in a blaze of disco lights, music and the endless thumpa thumpa....

We will survive.
